Lepidolite is a lithium-rich mica mineral that belongs to the phyllosilicate group. It typically forms as a result of hydrothermal processes, where hot fluids interact with existing rocks and minerals. Lepidolite commonly occurs in granite pegmatites, which are large, coarse-grained igneous rocks known for their exceptional mineral diversity.

The mineral forms in the later stages of pegmatite crystallization when the temperature and pressure conditions are suitable for its formation. Lepidolite is often found alongside other lithium-bearing minerals such as spodumene and petalite.

Lepidolite is known for its lavender to rose-pink coloration, which is caused by the presence of trace amounts of manganese. It is also characterized by its micaceous structure, which allows it to be easily split into thin, flexible sheets.
