Lazurite is responsible for the vibrant blue color of lapis lazuli & the formation during the metamorphism of limestone. The presence of other minerals can create variations in the stones appearance, with streaks or flecks of white calcite & golden pyrite often seen in Lapis Lazuli.
Lapis Lazuli is found in regions with significant geological activity such as Afghanistan, Russia, Chile & the United States.
The locality is Afghanistan. on the Mohs Hardness Scale, it ranks at a 5 to 5.5.
